Transit Visa

For people transiting through Switzerland/the Schengen zone or having a flight within the Schengen zone on their way to a final destination outside the Schengen area (e.g. Moscow - Zurich - Madrid - Rio de Janeiro).

Description

Original of passport

Passport, which must be valid for at least three months after the date when the holder leaves the Schengen area, containing at least two empty pages and issued within the previous 10 years.

Old passport

If you have Schengen visas issued during the past three years in the old passport, it is recommended to submit either the annulled/old passport or at least copies of the 2 last Schengen visas and the page with the personal data of that passport with your application.

Two identity photos

2 identical, recent passport photographs, meeting Schengen photo requirements (one glued on the application form, the other attached).

Schengen application form

Duly completed (in German, French, Italian or English), dated and signed by the applicant in person. The visa application form is available on the Forms page. In case of minors (below the age of 18), the application form needs to be signed by at least one of their parents or the person exercising legal guardianship.

Medical insurance policy

  1. The travel insurance should be valid for Schengen area if you apply for short stay visa.
  2. The insurance must cover the minimum amount of 30,000.00 Euro (coverage: repatriation for medical reasons, urgent medical attention, emergency hospital treatment and transportation of the body in case of death).
  3. The insurance should cover the whole period of your stay in Schengen area. If the visa is requested with a longer validity and multiple entries, the travel insurance only needs to cover the first trip. With the 2nd signature on the application form (page 4), the applicant confirms to be aware that for all future trips he/she will also need the necessary travel insurance.
  4. List of Insurance companies accredited with the visa section of the Embassy of Switzerland.
Copy of visa or travel document valid for the main destination Documents related to the onward journey to the final destination (visa or other entry permit for the third country of destination, tickets for onward journey).
Copy of birth certificate  
Copy of consent of the parental authority or legal guardian If a child travels alone or is only accompanied by one parent: an authorization signed in front of a notary public by the parents/the parent who is not travelling, is required.
Copy of the consent’s translation into German, French, Italian or English  
Copy of the valid Schengen visa(s) of the parent(s) travelling with the minor Copies of the valid Schengen visas of the parents travelling together with the child, if the parents submit their applications not at the same time.

Evidence of employment

Evidence of employment (letter from the employer) with salary information.

For students/pupils: student card (original and copy) or attestation from the University/school.

For retired: pension certificate (copy).

Self-employed people / individual entrepreneurs: Proof of economic activity (e.g. 2NDFL or 3NDFL form, copy of extract from the trade/fiscal registry or copy of certificate for individual business/entrepreneur) or bank statement covering the last 3 months or bank letter confirming the account’s balance.

Solvency proof

Bank account statement showing the movements for the last three months or bank letter confirming the balance of the account. Each person must have at least CHF 100.00 for every day of stay at his/her disposal (or the equivalent amount in another currency). For children and students the value amounts to about CHF 30.00(or the equivalent amount in another currency).

Copy of document proving legal residence in Russia

All non-Russian citizens living in Russia have to be legal residents of the Russian Federation and need to present the relevant documents (copy of residence permit, long-term visa or FMS registration). These documents need to be valid for at least 3 months beyond the planned return from the Schengen area or a document is to be submitted that the holder has applied for the renewal of proof of legal residence.

Authorization

The authorization has to present that the courier is in charge to represent the visa application in the name of the company/organization. This document must be on business paper, stamped and signed by a legal person.

Copy of documents proving
the family relationship between the applicant and the representative

Copy of the birth certificate, marriage certificate or Swiss family certificate. Mandatory if the documents are submitted by close relatives.

Evidence of representative’s employment

Evidence of representative’s employment must be a confirmation of the company/organization that the representative and the applicant are permanently employed in the same company/organization. This document must be on business paper, stamped and signed by a legal person. The period of validity is 6 months.

Copy of representative ID

Travelers wishing to apply for a visa must submit their application in person. They can be represented by (only when the biometric data enrollment not required is):

  • A travel agency accredited with the Swiss Embassy
  • Close relative (spouse, mother, father, adult sister/brother, and adult daughter/son) who has to provide proof of the family ties (copy of birth certificate or marriage certificate: does not need to be legalized or translated)
  • Representative of not accredited companies:The representative needs to prove his/her employment with the company for whom he/she represents own employees for business visa applications. He/she has to provide an authorization letter. He/she cannot represent any other applicants (family members, business partners, etc.).
  • Representative of organizations/authority:The representative needs to prove his/her employment with the organization/authority for whom he/she represents own employees for business/official visit visa applications. He/she has to provide an authorization letter. He/she cannot represent any other applicants (family members, business partners, etc.).
  • Representative of cultural organizations:The representative needs to prove his/her employment with the cultural organization for whom he/she represents artists/participants for cultural visa applications. He/she has to provide an authorization letter. Or he/she is a member of the group which means that he/she is mentioned in the invitation as well. He/she cannot represent any other applicants (family members, business partners, etc.).
  • Representative of sport organizations:The representative needs to prove his/her employment with the sport organization for whom he/she represents own employees/athletes/participants for sport event or meetings with sporting visa applications. He/she has to provide an authorization letter. He/she cannot represent any other applicants (family members, business partners, etc.).

In addition, all the representatives must also present proof of identity (one photocopy for each application).
